The Preschool program at the Rainbow Center for Children and Families aims to enhance the children's social skills, emotional expression and internal self- control while preparing them academically for Kindergarten.
The 3 year-old preschoolprogram utilizes a play based curriculum while focusing on developing independence, learning to be part of a group, negotiating, taking turns, understanding differences, expressing their feelings and thoughts and making friends. The daily activities are centered around a weekly theme, and learning occurs as children participate in structured, semi-structured and free play activities throughout the day. Children enjoy individual as well as group time. The 3 year-old classroom has a 6:1 student-teacher ratio.
The 4 year-old preschoolprogram aims to provide the children with a solid academic, social and emotional foundation for a successful Kindergarten year. The Literacy, Mathematics, Science and Social Skills curricula developed by the Rainbow Center staff focus on learning through social interactions with peers and teachers. Group games and the classroom computer help children enhance their cognitive and social skills. Children have the option to take weekly Spanish classes and enjoy monthly library visits with the Kindergarteners. The 4 year-old classroom has a 8:1 student-teacher ratio.
All preschoolers have bi-weekly music classes, and outdoor play time mornings and afternoons. Friendships developed during these preschool years often last into the elementary school.
